Camshaft Gear

A camshaft gear is a gear fitted to the end of a camshaft to help drive it and turn it at the correct speed. The camshaft gear is usually an external-toothed gear which meshes with an internal-toothed gear attached to the crankshaft. This allows the camshaft to be driven at one-half the speed of the crankshaft. In some engines, the camshaft may use its own internal-toothed gear, which meshes with a toothed belt, in order to drive the camshaft at a different speed than the crankshaft.
