In order to assist the customer in obtaining the most efficient operation and production from the Carbon Dioxide Generator, the following chapters on Principle of Operation, Maintenance, and Trouble Shooting are recommended for careful study. They will give the operator a better understanding of what the generator is designed to produce and what may be expected from it.

The basic process of producing a carbon dioxide gas is to first mix air with a fuel at a particular ratio. The air and fuel are fed separately to the burner where they are mixed and then this mixture is burned. This combustion produces flue gas consisting primarily of Nitrogen (N₂) and Carbon Dioxide (CO₂). This flue gas is passed through a flue gas cooler where the temperature is reduced. The gas is then fed into an absorber tower where it comes in contact with an amine solution which absorbs the CO₂ into the solution. The N₂ gas leaving the top of the absorber passes through a demister and exhaust hood where entrained liquid is removed. The N₂ gas is then vented to atmosphere.

The "RICH" amine solution which has absorbed the CO₂ is circulated from the absorber through a continuous regeneration system consisting of a stripper and a regenerator where the carbon dioxide is stripped from the MEA amine solution. This is accomplished by amine/steam vapors generated in the regenerator rising up through the stripper tower counter current to the rich solution fed to the top of the stripper. The CO₂ "Lean" solution exiting the regenerator is then cooled and re-circulated to the absorber to again collect CO₂. The CO₂ exiting the regenerator system is cooled and available for further processing.
