Ball Float Steam Trap

A ball float steam trap is a mechanical steam trap device. It works by using a ball float that is buoyed up by the force of the steam. When the steam stops, the ball falls down, closing the inlet valve and preventing steam from escaping. The trapped steam is then condensed back into its liquid state and discharged to a sewer or condensate return system. Ball float steam traps are used in steam heating and process systems. These traps come in a variety of materials such as bronze, stainless steel, brass and cast iron, and can handle temperatures up to about 350°F (177°C).
