Crown Pinion

The crown pinion is a type of drive gear used in mechanical systems for the purpose of transmitting power from a drive shaft to a driven shaft. It consists of two gears, one mounted on top and the other on the bottom, that interlock and turn in opposite directions. The crown gear is the driven gear and is typically the larger of the two. The pinion is the driving gear and is typically the smaller of the two. The teeth of the pinion mesh with the teeth of the crown gear and transmit power between the two shafts, moving the driven shaft at a slower rate than the drive shaft.
