Mechanical Shaft Seals

- Pump SealsA mechanical shaft seal is a type of pump seal used in many different types of pumps, including centrifugal pumps, in order to create an effective seal between the pump’s housing and the shaft. The most common type of mechanical shaft seal consists of two primary components: a stationary seal and a rotating seal, both of which are typically constructed from durable materials such as carbon, silicon, and stainless steel. The stationary seal is attached to the stationary part of the pump, such as the housing, while the rotating part is driven by the shaft. As the rotating seal is turned, a second seal is created between the two components and prevents liquids or gases from escaping from the shaft. The seal is designed to be strong and will remain in place under the pressure created by the pump’s operation. A mechanical shaft seal is able to handle a wide range of pressure, speed, and temperature, making it well suited for many applications.
