The Challenge

To develop a  Data Acquisition System for Monitoring  the speed of compressing force and controlling the desired fill depth of Tablet Pressing Machine.

The Solution

Using National Instruments LabVIEW and PCI hardware to develop a highly reliable and flexible Data Acquisition and control system resulting in reduced downtime and increased accuracy. "The new system reduces plant downtimes and with the increased accuracy of our hardware, we can deliver a higher-quality rugged system."

The PCI-based system is provided value to the customer by addressing all the shortcomings of the earlier manual system. With LabVIEW, we integrated all the hardware pieces into the application effortlessly and developed a robust application, delighting our customer in the process.

Project Description

This System has to compress the tablet with desired compression force and monitor the compressing force using the load cell output and control the desired fill depth.

PCI Based Automation System

This system automation is used for Tablet Pressing Machine. The tablet powder is fed into the dye through the hopper. The turret is rotated such that the punches are pressed towards the dye , the powder gets compressed in to tablets. Turret is rotated by 3 phase induction motor. The VFD will control the 3 phase induction motor, varying the fill depth by controlling the stepper motor. Auto lubrication motor is controlled by the software on-off  timer.

National Instruments PCI-6221 which has Analog, Digital Input/Output’s and counter is used to

• Acquire the data from the load cell
• To control and acquire data from the VFD drive and control the stepper
• The encoder which is coupled to the stepper motor gives the fill depth in terms of pulse is acquired through the counters which is present in the system
