Regardless of your experience working with pumps, it would be best if you took the time to read the instructions before turning the pump on. Every pump is different somehow, and you should be aware of the differences before you start the machine and operate it without any algorithm. 

• Overheating

As with any pump, you must have proper thermal checks in place to keep the apparatus from overheating. Slurry pumps handle a lot of soft and hard waste, which requires sufficient work. Many businesses put extreme stress on the mechanism, putting the environment and employees at risk of fire.

Wait till the pump cools down to room temperature before venting the pump and draining the plug. 

• Protective gear

It would be best if you never operated a slurry pump without wearing protective gear, which can protect you from hazardous chemical leaks.

You should only use the type of liquid that is designated for the pump you buy.

The slurry pump runs at the speed you fix it for, which depends on the pipe's length. If you shorten the tube, the pump will have to do more work to provide the same pumping application. If you increase the head without optimizing the velocity, you will notice a lower flow rate below the necessary settings. You should always talk to your manufacturer and get the essential advice to change your pump's settings.

No, oil is not a very good lubricating agent for slurry pumps that move the viscous liquid around. The parts of the slurry pump have sacrificial fragments, which only have designs for grease lubrication. Oil lubrication leaks are far worse than grease lubrication and require more maintenance as well. Grease lubrication makes designing the pumps a little more straightforward for the slow speeds we see here.

It is not a decent idea to re-use old pumps which have sacrificial parts that corrode quickly. You should first check the equipment for any details which are broken and replaceable. If the equipment is sitting around without operation for too long, it will lack the necessary maintenance and lubrication. Further, you can also find a dust layer on the equipment, which is terrible for it. Dust can segment in corners of the apparatus, and moisture rust can combine with the damage. It is always better to get equipment that is new and works efficiently, instead of spending a lot on maintaining an old one. 

Slurry pumps have designs that can serve in warm temperatures, but you should stop the operation if it's getting too hot. After halting the power, you should inspect the pump for any incorrect configurations. Sometimes if you overuse the pump, it can overheat as well. It is good to allow sufficient rest periods to these mechanisms for optimal operation.
