Star Delta Starters

Star Delta starters are used with three-phase motors to reduce the starting current of the motor by using a reduced voltage to start the motor. This is done by connecting two sets of contacts together in a specific pattern to initially provide a reduced voltage to the motor during the start-up process, then increase the voltage to the full operating voltage once the motor reaches a preset speed. This process reduces the starting current and torque of the motor by as much as one third, allowing for easier start-up and reducing mechanical stress on the motor.
